We all need download managers in our daily internet usage. And because we can’t wait the time taken by browsers to download a file, here’s the list of best free download managers for your PC. These download managers are of great help as they download files in batches with multiple and parallel downloads. They do the job better and faster and more efficiently than browsers.
List of Best Free Download Managers for PC
Internet Download Manager
Internet Download Manager, or IDM, is perhaps the most popular download managers you can get. IDM tops my list because of it’s great features such as download speed acceleration, resuming download, scheduled downloading (the option download later), video grabber, browser integration, and much more. Please note that the IDM is available only for Windows PC users. I included IDM in the list of best free download managers because the trial version is available for a 30 days. Once this trial period is over, you will have to buy a license that starts at $11.95/year. There are however, alternatives to IDM as well.
EagleGet follows IDM in the list of best free download managers. It is a lightweight download manager available for Windows. There are certain features similar to IDM. This includes, scheduling downloads, accelerated download speeds, customizing themes, setting speed limits(this feature is rather funny because who wants to limit their download speed anyway?), and browser integration. The EagleGet Downloader also has its own malware checker. This is perhaps an additional feature compared to other download managers.
JDownloader is a free download manager having some of its parts open sourced. Talk about features, the JDownloader has almost all of the great features of IDM. These are download resumption, setting bandwidth limitations on your downloads and changing themes. JDownloader also offers multilingual support like IDM.
This is the user interface of JDownloader. You will love it once you get to familiarize yourself with. The greatest and coolest feature of JDownloader is that it has the capability to solve captchas by itself. So you know when you’re gonna neeed it. Also JDownloader is available not only for Windows, but also for Linux, Mac, or any other Java-based OS users as well. So, for some of you, this might be the best free download manager for PC.
Free Download Manager
As the name suggests, Free Download Manager is a free software that has got quite competitive with IDM for your computer. The common features like download schedule and accelerate downloads are available for Free Download Manager as well, just as in the IDM. Plus, you can also resume broken downloads from the last stable point. Free Download Manager also supports BitTorrent clients. Just add magnet links or torrent files to it, and start downloading your file right away. Free Download Manager is available for Mac and PCs.
Internet Download Accelerator
Some of these download managers seem to be imitating their names and we also have the Internet Download Accelerator. Internet Download Accelerator is one of my favorites in among the best free download managers. With ample of features like accelerated downloading, scheduled downloading, multilingual support, video and MP3 downloading, and customizable themes, it’s indeed very much similar to IDM (names apart) and is still free. Free is for your personal use though, and if you want to use it for commercial purposes, you can buy its Pro version that costs just $9.95 for a single user. No ads in the pro version, only additional features, like download speed control, FTP explorer, site manager etc.
uGet Download Manager
uGet Download Manager is a free open-source project that was launched back in 2003. Another addition to the list of best free download managers, this one is equipped with all the basic functionalities of a download manager. Due to it’s lightweight application and availability on a plethora of different platforms, uGet Download Manager finds its place in the list. Just like IDM, it can also download multiple files at a time, resume paused downloads, and schedule downloads. With its source code uploaded on SourceForge, you can rest assured of its security.
I hope the above list will suffice for your daily needs and in case you’d like to add more, do let us know in the comments below.
